Jacob Wells
My name is Jacob Wells and I'm a third year PhD student. I got my Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Mathematics from the University of Iowa before starting my PhD also at Iowa.
In the Malkova Lab, I work on various projects investigating the mechanism of Break-Induced Replication (BIR). Using yeast as a model organism, I work on Transcription-BIR Conflicts (TBCs) and the bioinformatic analysis of Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT). I also investigate the mutational signature of Micro-homology Mediated BIR (MMBIR) in humans by both analyzing cancer databases and pursuing to reconstitute the events in human cell culture.
During my spare time, I enjoy exercising, watching sports, playing video games, and being your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
